ellana ashara “i'll spread my wings & i'll learn how to fly” personality strength & weaknesses history character basics.
personality.
Ellana's personality is most often diplomatic, with a side of playfulness thrown in. She never wants to leave people unsatisfied or angry with her, so she does her best to mediate and come to peaceful solutions. This doesn't mean she allows herself to be walked all over, but she does often try to keep the peace and asks people to look at both sides of an issue. She genuinely cares about people and does whatever she can to help them, always putting them above herself. She very much considers the greater good and the fate of the world over her own wants and needs. So much of what Ellana does involves helping those that might otherwise be overlooked. It's especially important to her once joining the Inquisition that people see her and her fellow Dalish as strong allies and see all the good they're doing.
Ellana makes decisions from going with what her conscience tells her to do. What she achieves is based on what feels right to her and not what's most logical. She very much thinks with her heart first, her head second. She feels this technique has never led her astray. She takes her inspiration from Mythal, the elven goddess of love and justice. To Ellana, love and justice both require honesty, and she feels a person is most honest when they're listening to their heart. She's sure Mythal must have doled out true justice based on what her heart told her too. While her elven heritage is extremely important to her, Ellana has always wanted more for her people. They wander the land, never settling down for long and never building houses. They pass down tales of the once great elven empire, but have no ambition to better their lives in the here and now. Ellana admits that she's always wanted more, and being in the Inquisition gives her the opportunity to experience so much more that she ever would have had she remained with her clan. The clan's days are spent rejoicing in the hunt and little else, and they even remain isolated from other clans of Dalish. Part of the reason is because they don't want to attract the humans' notice by banding together in large groups, but another is that when the Keepers of the different clans convene to meet, there is always bitter quarreling between them, which doesn't foster a healthy relationship between clans. Ellana wishes things could change for the clan, but she feels they've gone on this way for so long that they won't. Within the Inquisition, Ellana can finally have the freedom to speak to humans and learn about their lives. She isn't turning her back on her Dalish heritage, but she's making room for new experiences too. strengths & weaknesses.
Ellana is a mage and can use magic in combat. She favors the Storm tree and (once in the Inquisition and most likely fighting) heavily relies on Frost Step to get out of melee range. She'll barrier her allies to protect them, sometimes at a cost to herself if they're too far out of range for her to barrier herself along with them. Her movements are graceful and light, so she's good at sneaking around, though no where near as good as a rogue or one of her clan's hunters might be. As for her personality, she's diplomatic, helpful, and kind. Ellana tries to see the best in everyone until they disappoint her beyond saving.
On the other hand, as far as weaknesses go, she expects honesty from others and anyone she finds has lied to her is someone she'll give the cold shoulder to afterwards. Her insistence on seeing both sides can lead her to appear wishy-washy or too forgiving when the situation calls for a critical eye. She has a weakness for human culture and learning all she can, that up until joining the Inquisition she's hidden for fear of being called a race traitor. She's not physically very strong, and is a sitting duck when it comes to melee combat (hence her reliance on barriers and Frost Step). When it comes to combat, she is a much better follower than leader, as she can't strategize or read a battlefield very well. history.
